My Little Cricket’s Delay: My First LA FEAT Meeting

In an effort to learn more and connect with a community of parents with children that have ASD I joined my first LA FEAT Meeting. My ASD mentor joined me for the meeting, we drove down to Hermosa Beach. Today’s meeting was given by Dr. Bea Braun on Auditory Processing Disorders.

I learned so much and found the subject matter to be fascinating. One of the diagnosis’s we have for my Little Cricket is that he may have an auditory processing disorder, however you cannot test for this until the age of 6. Still the information, how the brain processes information, and how the testing works was so interesting. Something I may need to pull from later.

What was also wonderful was meeting other moms of children with autism. A whole room of women and men fighting for their children and learning more to help them. It made me feel less alone to be surrounded by moms just like me. I desperately need to find a support group. Its on my very long long long list of things I need to do.

Afterwards my mentor and I grabbed Starbucks and talked until 11. I am drawing so much strength and inspiration from her. She is a godsend in my life right now and I feel I wouldn’t be anywhere near as far as I am now in our journey and philosophy about treatment without her.
