My Little Cricket’s Delay: Westside Regional Occupational Therapy Screening Number 2

A month ago my speech therapist, who is amazing, helped me appeal for another evaluation from the Westside Regional Center. Our previous screening didn’t suggest that my son needed Occupational Therapy and both my speech therapist (who is the only professional that has seen my son consistently enough to have a solid opinion of what he needs right now) and I believe that my Little Cricket REALLY needs OT.

The evaluator came today and she was amazing. In a short amount of time I feel like she was able to get a good handle on my Little Cricket and listening to my concerns about my son. He has started pulling toys onto himself, he likes to pour baskets of toys on himself, he seems to escalate to excited and because he is so excited he tends to disconnect from the world around him, , he has poor eye contact and doesn’t follow directions well, he needs to always be moving, always running, climbing… he is exhausting with the level of energy he has.

The evaluator will be writing a report and recommending that my Little Cricket get occupational therapy at least twice a week. Of course now we need to wait a month to get the report submitted and the funding approved. Only then will I begin to start looking for an occupational therapist.

It’s all so slow. But at least we are moving in the right direction.
