Mothers Little/Big Helper

Last Thanksgiving my husband’s entire family visited for the holiday. I had just found out I was pregnant and was dragging with my energy levels. With all the running around and the sightseeing and the get together Ms. Fairy, my then 12 year old niece, was a rock star helper with my Little Cricket. She adored him and he adored her and I was SO THANKFUL for all her hard work.

When we were sitting down at the table for dinner one night, before they left for home, I half-jokingly suggested to both Ms. Fairy and her mom that it would be lovely if Ms. Fairy would visit this summer for a few weeks to help out with my Little Cricket near the end of my pregnancy. They were both thrilled with the idea; and so 7 months later today finally arrived.

I bought Ms. Fairy’s plane tickets weeks ago. It was her first time flying alone, well as an un-accompanied minor, but she is 13 she is going to be totally fine. But then of COURSE the flight got all messed up. I had purchased a direct flight for her. The idea was that her mom would drop her off at her gate and watch her walk on the plane, and I would be in LA to pick her up when she got off the plane. Easy peasy right. Instead the plane ended up having a mechanical issue halfway here and was directed to Austin Texas. Thankfully un-accompanied minors get first dibs on getting booked on another flight to their destination so Ms. Fairy was put immediately on a plane bound for LALA land. But there was lots of stress on Ms. Fairy’s, her mother and my end. Finally she was on her way and scheduled to land only a few hours later than expected.

My Little Cricket and I parked, got our pick up tickets and went through security. We arrived just as Ms. Fairy was stepping off the plane. Yay safe and sound.

So she is going to stay for the next two weeks to help with my Little Cricket and we were going to have loads of fun. As an added bonus she gets to spend two weeks in sunny California and at the end of our trip we were going to go shopping for some new clothes for her.

Win win for all around. Hurrah.

Wow! Thankfully, she made it in one piece. I'm glad they have those rules for minors.
