Goodbye Seurat

Seurat, my faithful beautiful fur baby had to be put down today and it is soul crushing.

For months he has been having accidents around the house. For weeks now he hasn’t seemed himself and has been dropping weight. And then for the past few days he stopped bathing himself.

I have known for weeks now that he wasn’t going to make it long. That sometime in the near future I was going to have to make this horrible decision. But knowing and facing the reality of a situation are completely different. I took him to the vet and the tests confirmed my worst fears, that my baby was in the end stages of kidney failure, and since he was 18 there was nothing that could be done. The doctor started using words like ‘think about quality of life’ and ‘he was suffering’.

I left the office with pain medications and a few days to say goodbye. I hired a vet to come to the house. My Seurat always hated the vet. And this was more calm, more humane.

Tears are running down my face, and I will miss my little bowling ball. Bye bye baby.
