Nerdy Birdy: Birds of Florida

I know I peppered some birds into the past posts, but mostly I did the birds at bird sanctuaries. I cannot help everywhere I go however looking for birds. They are everywhere and it makes me so happy to try and capture them in a photo. Most of the birds I have seen before. All were still fun to catch. And then there were some I got to see in their breeding plumage, where I have only ever been able to see in the winter. Which was an added treat.

One of the coolest birds that I saw on the trip was a single Brown Noody. The only other place I have seen this bird was in the Galapagos so I was super excited to find him in Florida!

By far the coolest bird I saw on this three week trip in Florida was the Common Nighthawk. We were traveling on the boat on our way back from the Dry Tortugus National park when I saw a flock of about 30 birds out the window. I ran out, leaving the baby with my husband, and I managed to click several hurried photos. Imagine my astonishment when I found out that I had photographed an entire flock of Nighthawks during the day. AWESOME. This was my first time seeing this bird. And if that wasn’t cool enough another flock flew by about 10 minutes after the first and I got even more photos. SCORE.

Another new bird to cross off my Nerdy Birdy List. Since I had the baby 15 months ago I haven’t been able to get out birding much at all. So its been a while since I have seen a new bird.
