Florida Road Trip Day 19 - The Florida Keys: Exploring Key West

Tomorrow we had plans to drive to Key West to take the ferry ride to Fort Jefferson. However since it takes 3 hours to get there and 3 hours back, plus the time to explore the fort it was going to be an all day extravaganza that would literally take all day. There were other things we wanted to do and see in Key West so we decided, despite the hour and a half drive, that we would have to drive down twice. Once for the actual Key West sight seeing and once for the fort.

We knew we wanted to see the most southern point in the United States and I wanted to make sure we found the end of the 1. Both of these we found pretty easily.

I found many many many people that said that you have to check out the butterfly house. Mr. Rogue and I have been to many, and I thought meh… if we have time. In the end we did go and I am so glad we did, that place was incredible. By far the best butterfly house we have ever been too. There were SO MANY butterflies, most of which I had never seen before. Mr. Rogue and I had an absolute blast trying to capture these little butterflies. My Little Cricket had a ton of fun too trying to find and point them out to us.

It was so nice to be able to tag team. One of us would take my Little Cricket around while the other would be busy snapping away. And as if the butterflies weren't awesome enough the plants and BIRDS were incredible too. Seriously high five to the people that made this place so incredible.

We were now super hungry so we headed over to the place you just have to stop at when you are in Key West. Jimmy Buffets Margaritaville. Sure bringing a baby to bar may not be the most classy thing in the world but we just had to go. Mr. Rogue ordered a signature margarita (of course) and I ordered a daiquiri (the margaritas were too strong for me). I wasn't expecting the food to be so super amazing. I ordered the fish tacos, which I am now obsessed with… they were so good.

Afterwards we popped in to the souvenir shop next door, because we couldn't simply come to margaritaville without a little something. Mr. Rogue got a great hat and I got a new pretty blue tank top.

On the way home we decided to stop at ‘the beach’ my mom said was the best in the Keys. The Keys are rocky, so their beaches leave much to be desired. This beach however, although small, had the perfect fine sand that I love. My Little Cricket got a kick out of digging in the sand and playing in the water. I even buried him at one point up to his little waist… he loved it!

As if this day wasn't busy enough as it is Mr. Rogue really wanted to take the sunset cruise from our resort… if we could get there on time. We managed to run home, change very quickly, chuck some food and supplies in a bag and dash off to the dock. We made it with just two minutes to spare and my husband was one happy man. Yup another boat ride. Florida life!
