There She Doesn’t Blow

Ms. Ivey, we have a tradition of doing amazing things only to not exactly have the day go as planned, at least the boat didn’t sink.

As we were going through fun things to do in LALA land while Ms. Ivey was in town, something peeked both of our interest. It was the blue whales migrating season, and we could do a boat tour to see if we could find one. We had to get up early, and we had to hustle, but we managed to make it to the dock on time and get our tickets. I wasn’t really sure how my Little Cricket was going to do on a four hour boat ride, but I figured it cant hurt to try.

It was a perfect day, of course it was its LALA land, and we had smooth seas (thank goodness I don’t know yet if my kid can handle that). We eagerly scanned the seas all while trying to keep the baby entertained. Ms. Ivey was so super helpful and it makes all the difference in the world. We saw a bunch of birds on the trip, most of them seagulls or terns. I didn’t get to spend too much time photographing them but we loved looking.

On one of Ms. Ivey's strolls around the deck she found something rather odd. And of course she immediately ran over to tell me about it. It seems our captain likes to drive with his feet… I suppose it’s a practical thing, he is after all supposed to be looking for whale, but it seems awfully strange. I managed to grab a photo, hopefully without anyone in there knowing.

As our time wore on we had to get more and more creative with entertaining my Little Cricket. The company let me bring on the stroller which was so super helpful. He really enjoyed watching the water for a while and he also loved the pretzels I brought, but of course his favorite thing was us making silly faces.

We didn’t get to see a whale. Sadly the thing we went out for would just not show itself. The highlight of our trip ended up being a couple pods of dolphins playing in the wake of the boat. They were adorable, and incredibly difficult to photograph. Challenging to get a clear photo, and time it correctly to get a few flying through the air. Ahh to be so graceful in the water.

On our way back to the harbor was the most challegeing. My Little Cricket was done with the stroller so for that last hour Ms. Ivey and I took turns walking him on the deck and pointing out things we thought he might like. No one fell overboard, no one got hurt, the feet driving captain didn’t get us lost, but sadly we didn’t get to see our whale.

Since the aquarium was right there, and since I had a membership we decided to pop in for a while, but first we had to eat. Yummmm Outback.

I really love this aquarium and it was fun to show Ms. Ivey a little more of LALA land. We walked into a short screen showing about the fishing industry, my Little Cricket was ENRAPTURED by the ball of moving, talking light.

But the real fun is the actual aquarium. I think this is a great place for my Little Crickets age. At the zoo I have a hard time showing my son the animals, they are often still, far away and camouflaged. With the fish, constantly moving, colorful, and right there up and close my Little Cricket has no problem finding the animals. His favorite is the sea lion exhibit. We spent a good half hour playing and watching the sea lions play.
