The Reason for a Well Stocked Kitchen

Cooking is an art form and baking is a science. Add a little too much of this or that while cooking it is generally pretty easy to fix, just keep adding stuff until it tastes better. Add a little too much while cooking and it can be detrimental to the success of your dish.

This evening Mr. Rogue decided to jump in the kitchen and whip up a batch of Ameretto Molten Lava Cakes from a Williams-Sonoma kit. Yup that’s right, he is gorgeous AND this man cooks, bakes and cleans. I am such a lucky duck! When he began I reminded him that I had divided the kit into three portions and since we had only one portion of cake mix left over that meant he had to divide the ingredients that you had to add by three. He proceeded to make the cakes, carefully dividing all the ingredients into a third, except when he got to the water he put in the full amount. Catastrophe, he was less than pleased!

But not all was lost, we just needed more cake mix. Luckily on the back of the box was a list of the ingredients in the cake mix packet. Sure we didn’t know exact measurements but at least I knew what was in the cake mix, what order the amounts were and most importantly I had all the ingredients in my pantry. So Mr. Rogue and I tripled the rest of the ingredients as well as made up a cake mix. We held our breath as he mixed everything together. The cake batter looked right, with a taste and a few additions it tasted right, so we decided to cook it and see how it came out.

You know what those little lava cakes came out DAMN delicious. We were lucky. Now who is going to eat the other four!
