Durham: 'Tis the Season to Cannon Ball

This morning we woke up early and went to church, by the time we got home the rest of the troops had arrived. We went from five to fifteen and the noise and bustle was magnificent. Yup that’s right, all 15 of us all cuddled together in a house. Beds and toys and chaos fill ever hallway. It always takes me a little bit to acclimate to so many people, so much noise. Like a cannon ball plunge in a cold pool, a shock to the system. And then as suddenly as the feeling came, it is gone, and the water… it is just lovely!

We made a schedule of who was going to be responsible for making meals and then we organized a grocery list to support the next two days. With this many people shopping often is a necessity. My in-laws have two refrigerators and both were full to the brim. With the schedule we could all relax… at least if it wasn’t your day to cook, and then we also took the occasional break to go out to eat.

I always enjoy spending so much time with my nieces and nephews some of who I don’t get to see very often. But it was a whole new level of awesome to see my child playing with his cousins, hanging out with his aunts and uncles. Family is the cornerstone of happiness I truly believe that.
