Let’s Try this Whole Dairy Thing One More Time

A few months ago I was in a pinch and I fed my Little Cricket his first formula. After about a half hour of drinking the formula he started projectile vomiting and remained sick for about eight hours. I took him to the pediatrician who said that he may have a dairy allergy. But I always wondered. I gave him 5 ounces of formula his very first time. I wondered if it was the brand of formula, I wondered if I had just given him too much and I should have eased into it.

So today I decided to try a much smaller dosage of a very highly praised awesome organic milk formula from Germany. I fed him and I waited… twenty minutes passed, twenty five, thirty and I thought yay we got past the point of when it started last time. But then forty minutes go by and my bubble of happiness bursts, my Little Cricket starts getting violently ill again, and again the fever, chills, sickness lasts for 6 hours.

He was so sick I just took off his clothes and wrapped him in a big towel. He got the chills so bad that I just cuddled on the bed with him. I felt terrible for testing it out again. The good thing was that at least now I know without a shadow of a doubt that my Little Cricket is allergic to dairy. But I was miserable that my little baby was miserable. Finally the symptoms stopped as suddenly as they started and I was so happy to have made it through ok to the other side. So for now I will be getting a Nutramegin soy based formula to use for emergencies. No more dairy now for my Little Cricket until after a year. Hopefully he will just grow out of it.
