Baby Brain: Maternity Photoshoot 13 weeks

I have finally hit my 13th week and oh what a great sigh of relief I gave. Miscarriage statistics very differently depending on where you look but overall the miscarriage statistics are staggering. According to About.com “about 30% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage”; which means that about 1 in 3 pregnancies miscarry. Get to the sixth week once implantation has completed and that statistic drops to a 15-20% chance of miscarriage. And then get past week 12 and officially into week 13 and that statistic drops to a 3-4% chance.

So here I am at 13 weeks and thanking God that my risk is now greatly reduced. After two miscarriages I am a tangled body of anxiety about this pregnancy but seeing that 3-4% makes me much happier. I am not really sure when I will feel safe. I guess I feel safer now. However the further along I get I think the better it will be. At 20 weeks the statistic drops to .625% chance and that would be better. If I get to 24-25 weeks although a very little preemie babies have known to be able to live outside the womb… will I feel better then.

Of course I don’t have the answers. I will never know… right now I am just trying to be happy that I am in fact still pregnant and try to be positive that this baby will be born healthy and happy.
