Also Known as God Rays

Mrs. Dancer came over and we went through the photos of the Solar Eclipse from my three cameras and her camera. In the process we were talking about how gorgeous the light was falling from the clouds, like beautiful golden rays, right on LALA land.

THE PHOTO OF BEAUTIFUL LIGHT THAT STARTED IT ALL

She used the term striation, but then I corrected her saying it was attenuation. I had learned about setting attenuation in school when learning how to create realistic light in 3D environments. She remembered striation was the correct way to describe the rays. Anyways when push came to shove I was pretty sure I was right and she was pretty sure she was right. And then we got to arguing, and then we transitioned to both of us maybe thinking we were right, that perhaps there was a better word to describe the streaking light, but both of us were convinced that the other was defiantly wrong. Which lead us to Google.

MRS. DANCERS CONVINCED IT WAS STRIATION - I WAS CONVINCED THAT IT WAS ATTENUATION

HOW, I ask you did anyone prove anything before Google came along. I use it at least 20 times a day (and that is me being conservative).

So according to the definitions both of us were not correct, and since we are curious people we decided to figure out what the CORRECT term is. Back to Google we ask the question “sun streaming through clouds”. Ahhhhh it is a mind reader. Fourth link down and we may just have a winner.

WE MAY HAVE A WINNER

Seems like the correct term is Crepuscular rays. I love that it comes from the latin word “crepusculum” which means twilight – my favorite time of day!!!!

My new goal this week is to use this term in a conversation once a day.

Hehe, well I am glad we were able to learn something from it :) Although I still say we were both partially right. At least both our words SOUNDED right :)

SUCH a cool shot! I feel that's how a lot of zombie/alien movie directors want that shot the 'day of the return'!
