She’s the Sister I Never Had

I have known Mrs. Dancer since I was 13 years old. We met around this time of year on the track field. Sure you could say that we had seen each other before but we both went to a VERY large junior high school. That day we met didn’t know we would become inseparable. I believe in soul mates. I don’t believe in one soul mate, and I don’t believe that soul mate applies just to the man in your life. Soul mate to me are people that you meet that you just cannot live without. If they left, you… your soul… would be irrevocably changed.

"Don't walk in front of me, I may not follow. Don't walk behind me, I may not lead. Walk beside me and be my friend.
- Albert Camus

Its strange knowing someone so well, growing up with someone, knowing all their faults and all their best moments. Attending dances, gossiping about our first kiss, molding each other into the people we are today. Some of the BEST memories I have are memories spent with her.

After high school we tried separating. She went to Michigan State to become a veterinarian, I went to the Art Institute of Pittsburgh to become a computer artist. We didn’t talk as much as I would have liked that year, we were both just so super busy with all the change swirling around us. I visited for a crazy Halloween weekend extravaganza and we missed each other like crazy. A year later Mrs. Dancer ditched her college and came out to go to the Art Institute, being separated just wasn’t good for us.

"We all take different paths in life, but no matter where we go, we take a little of each other everywhere."
-Tim McGraw

While living in Pittsburgh we grew from girls to young women. College, men, chaos, apartments, roommates, fights, makeups and all the drama in between was just easier to weather with my sister by my side. When one of us was up the other tended to be down. The good thing is that we had someone to rescue us. Without looking I always knew she would be there to catch me.

After the Pittsburgh years I decided to move to Los Angeles to persue my carrer and Mrs. Dancer moved to Ohio for a man. We tried to live apart but after a year I convinced Mrs. Dancer that I couldn’t live without her, she moved to Los Angeles and we started our adventure as California girls. Here we grew from young women to seasoned wise women.

~B.A. Billingsly~

We are so much alike in our mannerisms, how we talk, the sayings we use; I guess that goes back to us growing up together, each of us branching off of each other. It gets a little crazy when complete strangers often call us sisters. Sometimes we deny it, but sometimes we just nod and smile, after all we might not be sisters by blood but we are sisters by choice.

~Helen Keller~

We get along really well until we don’t. Never have a met anyone who can understand me so well and then drive me completely crazy the next second. WE are so much alike in so many ways but our opposites are like yin and yang. Even though we drive each other nuts the fact that we have opposite strengths and opposite weaknesses sometimes makes us stronger. She is my partner in crime and I cannot image the next hundred years of my life without her.

You could say that our crazies just balance each other out :) I wish everyone had a sister by choice like mine. Now if I could just learn to share....love you sister mine.
