Mammoth, SF Road Trip: Footwear Fiascos

So I finished my eight mile hike and the last two miles back to the car was AWFUL and painful. Seems like my new ski boots rubbed the side of my leg a little. Nothing that was too horrible, something like a mini rug burn. It didn’t start hurting until mile six, when my hiking boots had rubbed the same area. By the time I got back to the car I was limping and I knew I couldn’t wear my hiking boots for the rest of the week.

My options at this point are to wear my flip flops or my ballet slippers neither of which were going to work on rugged terrain. So I found an REI somewhat on the way to my next birding place and ran in hoping to find a nice pair of hiking shoes, something low enough where it wouldn’t rub my leg. I was running out of my precious light so I made it quick. I was in and out in about 20 minutes with the shoes and a few little extra things; chapstick, sunscreen and shorter socks. SCORE to comfy feet hurrah!

Obviously you had absolutely no choice here: HIking boots that killed your leg! flip flops!! OR ballerina slippers? Seriously!
