Sunday Skinny:It’s all about the Little Things

I am super excited; I lost three pounds this week. Mrs. Pool Shark and I are still going strong with our 30 day elliptical challenge and we are both working on eating healthier.

Other than focusing on getting in at least our minimum of thirty minutes of exercise a day my main goal is trying to work through my black and white viewpoint on food. You see I am either ‘on a diet’ and eating only healthy things OR I am ‘not on a diet’ and I just eat whatever I want whenever I want. I cannot have good and bad months or good or bad weeks. Rather I need to have good or bad choices, my bounce back needs to be better. I need to be ok with grey, where I eat well most of the time but I allow myself to deviate from eating well just enough to be content.

Sounds simple but it is really very hard. At least the constant exercising is making me more focused on what I eat. I am not going to work out for thirty minutes or an hour and then waste all that hard work with bad food choices. I find I am also not craving crap as much. Maybe it is the exercise that leaves me happier, on a endorphin high. Maybe it is because I am working out and I feel like I am finally doing something good. But when I find myself hungry I am reaching for healthier options.

Chocolate however is a different story. It is my Achilles heel. I simply adore it and a world without chocolate is a not a pretty world at all. Before I would have just kept telling myself no until the craving built itself into some gigantic unstoppable beast and I would eat a snickers bar. Now I have been trying to give myself a little bit of chocolate when I crave it. Not much, just a tiny little taste but it is working.

The Snickers bar is 440 calories however the Nestle Crunch Jingle (yes it is left over from the Christmas candy stash) is only 33 calories. These little changes I hope will eventually make a big difference.

Dark chocolate is good for you :) you could have 2 small 33 calorie candies. It'll be good!

I too love chocolate, and allow myself those Miniature Hershey bars, just one when you have the urge to splurge.
