Book Club: “Room” by Emma Donoghue

I arrived at Mrs. Dancer’s for our weekly book prepared to settle in and have a good time, however it was so gorgeous outside Mrs. Dancer decided to drag our fabulous group out to the local park. I cannot tell you the last time I took a blanket, a hamper of food and myself out to a park just because it was nice day. Not to self best idea ever... Mrs. Dancer is a genius!

Our book this month was “Room” by Emma Donoghue which was INCREDIBLE. The book is written with a five year old as the narrator, I was worried that he wouldn’t be able to convey what was going on as a credible guide but I feel like she did a fantastic job. She not only was able to keep the book engaging I also thought that using the boy as the narrator kept a certain distance between the reader and the horribleness of what was going on.

Of course we had a great conversation, one of the best so far because everyone loved the book, and we got to drink our smuggled wine out of red plastic cups. It has been quite some time since I had to use the infamous plastic red cup to sneak alcohol.

I have been doing so well the past couple of days with eating well and I planned on continuing today however Mrs. Bulldog brought a secret dietary disaster weapon. The Perfect Circle Cupcakery... winners of Cupcake Wars.

I resisted for half of book club with the box sitting right next to me. I failed to keep my guard up. Once cupcake after all wouldn’t make or break my weight loss. AND it was so worth it. Gorgeous lemony goodness packed in a tiny little cupcake goodness.

All in all book club was fantastic. The book was amazing, the discussion was great, the sunshine was gorgeous and wiggling our bare feet in the grass was the icing on the cupcake. Great day with my girls!

I love that silly country song by Toby Keith, Red Solo Cup. Smuggling in that wine, reminded me of that song. Great Idea Mrs. Dancer!! Fun in the sun at the park, MAAARVELOUS!
