Home Sweet Home: A New Zip Code

So two months ago I posted that I had a secret and now that it is a done deal I can now let the cat out of the bag. Mr. Rogue and I are buying a new house and today we entered into a 28 day escrow.

It all started months ago. Mr. Rogue and I kept talking about quality of life. How he works crazy hours and has a long commute. How he would like to not spend an hour and a half to two hours a day in the car and how nice it would be when we finally have kids to see them once in a while; that discussion lead to much agonizing. We had JUST finished construction on our home a year ago. We love our little house. Sure it is small but it was our first home. I had imagined raising kids here, we had painted all the rooms and designed the floor plan exactly how we wanted. Every knob and tile we personally handpicked and now we were thinking of moving.

To say that the decision was hard it an vast understatement.

We discussed it for four months going back and forth, scribbling pro and con lists and checking out real estate for sale on the Internet. We really took our time because we were petrified of making an impulsive decision, something that would take our family in the wrong direction. Despite all our arguments and reasons to stay in our comfortable little home we kept circling back to the same thing. Mr. Rogue wanted more time home. In the end shortening his daily commute and giving him a better quality of life was the deciding factor. This decision was not made lightly.

Two months ago we hired a real estate agent and started seriously looking. Although there was tons to talk about, including many posts about the ugliness of peoples decorating ‘taste’ and when I say taste I mean horror, I was hesitant to blog about looking for a home in case we changed our minds, or didn’t find that perfect house. I am happy to say that within weeks that there was nothing to worry about. We found that perfect house.

Sure there are something's we would like that this house does not have, but I can honestly say as soon as I walked in the door I knew this was the house for us.

After making a first bid we were throwing offers and counter offers back and forth for two weeks. Today the seller finally accepted our last counter offer and we are officially in escrow. As long as all the paperwork goes through ok we will have our new home and we couldn’t be happier. I have already forgotten most of the stress, and the extra pounds I am now carrying on my hips because of that stress. Now comes the fun part of packing and moving everything. This is one of those times I really wish that modern technology would catch up to Star Trek so I could just transport all my houses contents to the new house.

Mr. Rogue came home from work and stepped into the house a huge smile on his face. I cracked open the fancy ‘do not drink’ bottles of wine and we toasted to our new home. I pray that this is a good move, a good decision and when I get a little scared that we are taking such a huge step when I am still a little emotionally wobbly I look into my husband’s eyes, see his happiness and his confidence and let that good feeling wash over me. This is a good move… I can feel it!

P.S. Please don’t laugh at my do not drink tape label which was born out of the fact that we accidentally drank one of our fancy bottles of wine when we were too inebriated to realize that it was a special occasions bottle not a opps we ran out of margarita mix let’s just grab a bottle of wine while we are drunk bottle.
