The Sunday Skinny: Week 9

I didn’t loose a single pound when I got on the scale today for my weekly weight in and it’s all my fault. Or should I say it’s all the Kit-kat and Fourth of July’s fault. I was doing well in the first half of the week, by Friday I was down two pounds and I was looking forward to possibly a three pound loss this week. Sadly, Saturday the crap hit the fan.

First it was the late night kit-kat war, where I lost and at that delicious kit-kat. Then because I ate the one and had already cheated I ended up eating another one. Stupid cheating logic... it never makes sense and I always regret it later. Then the fourth of July BBQ at the neighbours where I told myself I would cheat just a tiny bit. Yea I drank a little too much of the grown up cool-aid and ended scarfing down two hot dogs (cuz those are healthy right), a cup of potato salad AND two huge cookies. Why oh why do I never learn my lesson. I did manage to say no to the cake but that is only because the cake came much much later in the evening (thank goodness) and I had stopped drinking the cool-aid.

Moral of the story is that when I got on that scale I had gained back the two pounds I lost. ANNOYING for sure. At times like these when I am super frustrated I look at my inches guide. Because losing weight just isn’t about the pounds, it’s also about losing the inches as well.

Every week, on Sunday, I weigh myself in the morning and then I measure myself. I read about this on a dieting website, it’s to give you something to keep yourself going for another week when the frustration of the scale not moving is too much. I reasoned that I could really use a pick me up so I compared where I was when I started nine weeks ago to now.

I have lost 21.75 total inches in just 9 weeks; he biggest loss was 7 inches around my waist alone. WHOOOOOPIIIIIIIIEEEEE.

All of us trying to lose weight are doing it to look better about ourselves for sure, but there is also the added benefit of a healthier body, a longer life and less disease. So not only have I lost weight and inches I have also vastly improved my waist to hip ratio an indicator of how your body stores your fat and how that fats location effects your risk for some serious health problems. Problems like diabetes, coronary heart disease and blood preasure. My risk has dropped from high to low in just nine weeks.

So even though the pounds didnt drop this week I am revitalized by my other successes and plan on kicking that scales butt this week. I am promising myself to expect to see a big number next week.

Weight Gain Round 5: 210 pounds. 20 pounds gained when I lost the baby.

Weight Gain Round 4: 190 pounds. I lost weight for the wedding and then I gained it all back plus an additional 10 pounds. The wedding gave me a date to reach for but once that day passed all my plans fell apart and the bingeing started again. BLAST IT!!!

Weight Gain Round 3: 180 pounds. When my brother passed away I started bingeing regularly to cover my emotions and gained another 30 pounds.

Weight Gain Round 2: 150 pounds. I gained 15 pounds when I tackled that large project at work and worked all those long hours for a year.

Weight Gain Round 1: 135 pounds. I gained the inevitable ‘I’m in a comfy relationship’ 10 pounds after I started dating my husband.

Start weight when I moved to California 125.

GOAL WEIGHT = 135-150 pounds

Your body needs time to adjust to all the weight you just lost, keep up the good work. At least you're not gaining and you did eat whatever you wanted while on vacation, so I think maintaining is most excellent!
