LEAVING LOS ANGELES ON OUR WAY TO MICHIGAN WITH A SUNRISE AND A RAINBOW

Mom and I arrived at the Los Angeles airport early this morning for our flight to Michigan and other than a almost lost Drivers Licence (yea that would have been FUN if we hadn’t found it) we didn’t have any troubles. Hurrah we are on our way, 10 days of family fun!

MOM AND ME ON OUR WAY TO MICHIGAN

I was born and raised in the state of Michigan, the mitten state, and
I think that anyone who has ever lived here has to love water. Not only does Michigan have the longest freshwater coastline because it's surrounded by four of the five great lakes it rains and snows a ton. The thunderstorms rage across the flat terrain in the fall and spring and I was always awestruck by the powerful magnificence of them. This state also has 64,000 inland lakes and ponds which means that if you are in Michigan you are never more than 6 miles from natural fresh water.

GOTTA LOVE THE WATER

As a kid I spent a good amount of time at the water; camping trips up at Higgins’s Lake, taking out the canoes for hours at Stony Creek and long trips down lazy flowing rivers on hot summer days. Some of my most favourite summer days were spent at the water.

Our plane traveled into Flint on a clear day and as we flew over Lake Michigan I happened to peek out the window and gasped in happiness. I seriously almost wept with joy. The ice had formed beautiful delicate crystallized formations on the surface of the lake; a massive plane of gorgeous cracks and fissures that captured the light. That along with the setting sun which threw delicate pinks in the sky made my heart soar. Of course I grabbed my camera.

The snowy landscapes of the farmland also was beautiful. I like how this photograph looks like a funky linear modern art piece.
