Photo Phriday: Beauty and the Beast

Yesterday at the Feline Conservation center they had several pairs of peacocks roaming around. Now peacocks are totally wickedly beautiful in their own right but generally super skittish. These peacocks however were so tame we were literally dancing around trying not to step on them. I was super excited to spend quite a bit of time with them, and then the males started fanning out their feathers. I have never seen a peacock with their full display showing. I guess since it is spring and mating season they were showing off to the lady peacocks. So imagine, I am snapping photos, happy as can be, and then the sun came out and made the iridescent feathers really shine. I felt like Santa had given me a huge gift and it wasn’t even Christmas. Hope you enjoy this week’s Photo Phriday.

Meet the beautiful peacocks.

One of the younger, not fully mature males we noticed was practicing his fan. Although lacking the full beautiful spread of feathers and still covered with his plane drab brown feathers he got my parents and I laughing pretty hard.

And now introducing the beast, the horribly ugly, disgustingly balding Guinea Fowl. It was the only one there, so it was hanging around the peacocks and well compared to the peacocks she just fell very short of the beauty stick.

The end.

Peacocks qualify in my book as one of the most beautiful birds on our planet.
