Nerdy Birdy: Birding in Jamul

We went on a short hike today in an area near Jamul I found on the internet. Although the habitat looked good for birds we didn’t see or hear very many and those we did see or hear were pretty dense in the woods. My mom and I tried a few times to get nearer to where the birds were singing but we mostly just ended up with scratched legs and pickers from going off the path.

ONE OF THE MORE COOPERATIVE BIRDS TODAY WAS THIS BEWICK’S WREN

Again I am tired, I am broken, and I am carrying the big lens... must learn lesson and STOP when my poor body has had enough!

I did manage to get a few bird photos like the Anna’s Hummingbird. They are an easy bird to find in the spring because they are constantly chirping high on perches trying to stake out and defend their territories.

I always get a little bit excited when I hear a bird song that I think may be new and it is so disappointing when that sound ends up being a mockingbird (this bird likes to copy other sounds and can mimic so many so well that I am constantly fooled) or sometimes even a squirrel. I heard what I thought was a new bird, I looked for 10 minutes only to finally find this guy’s head pocking out from behind a rock.

DANG SQUIRREL I THOUGHT IT WAS A NEW BIRD

He was staring straight at me chattering away. I was aggravated for chancing a dang squirrel!

A CLOSER LOOK OF MY NEMISIS

I did manage to find two new birds to cross of my nerdy birdy list. Although both of them are photos that I am not super happy with at least they were new birds.

Nice pictures. It's a good idea that you're tracking your settings. You can be even more amazing.
