Galapagos Islands: Celebrity Expedition

On our last day of our cruise Mr. Rogue and I were reflecting on our trip and wishing we could stay another week. That though actually skated across Mr. Rogue’s thoughts, he even suggested out loud for one second if we should go to the office and see if anyone canceled for next week's cruise. Of course we would never do that, but we did decide to perhaps come back again in the wet season (now is the dry season) because we loved the Galapagos so much.

OUR BOAT THE CELEBRITY XPEDITION

I have been on many cruises (Mr. Rogue has been on the one we went together on to Mexico a few years ago) but all those were on boats with thousands of passengers. The large vessels feel like gigantic hotels and although amazing in their own way I much preferred the smaller intimate atmosphere of the Xpedition. With only 90 passengers and an open seating arrangement for meals I felt by the end of the cruise we knew everyone on the boat. Even if you didn’t know everyone’s name I did recognize everyone’s face and that intimacy made for a much better vacation.

WALKWAY DOWN TO THE LOWER DECK WHERE WE BOARDED THE ZODIACS

With the boat at maximum capacity there was still a ton of space to spread out. Even when we were all in the same room together at our nightly meeting for the next day’s events or at dinner the boat never felt too small.

A ROOM TO RELAX IN THAT COULD HOLD ALL 90 PASSENGERS COMFORTABLY

One of my most major concerns about being on a smaller boat was that we would get sea sick. Thankfully however both Mr. Rogue and I didn’t get sea sick at all but I should note that in the dry season the water is pretty tame compared to the rougher wet season. Even with our tame seas I only really felt the boat move when I was trying to walk down the narrow hallways to our rooms. I just could not walk in a straight line.

A ROOM TO RELAX IN THAT COULD HOLD ALL 90 PASSENGERS COMFORTABLY

The rooms were comfortable with air conditioning thank goodness but they were cruise rooms and pretty small. Thankfully we were busy on the island most of the time so we only were really in our room for any length of time to sleep.

OUR ROOM WAS SMALL BUT WE DIDN’T SPEND TOO MUCH TIME THERE

OUR ROOM WAS 418

The service was fantastic, we didn’t want for anything and they really tried to accommodate everyone. From the moment we got off the plane they have taken care of everything. It is nice to not have to worry. And the food, I was worried when I got home I would have gained 20 pounds this week (thankfully all that hiking with heavy equipment counterbalanced the extra calories), was sooooo good. For a smaller boat they gave us an incredible amount of options; two appetizers, two salads, a soup, a choice between 6-7 entrees and two deserts.

THE FOOD WAS YUMMY

Most of our meals were eaten in the dining room but one day they had a BBQ lunch prepared on deck. Super fun.

A REAL LIVE BBQ OUT ON THE DECK

They cooked beef and chicken, sausages, shrimp and lobster with all the fixings. It was nice to sit out on deck and bask in the sun enjoying good BBQ food. What a great idea.

TASTY BBQ

Although we didn’t drink much, with all the hiking and hot weather I didn’t want to get too dehydrated and hung over, it was still nice that even all the drinks were included in the price of the trip. Every day they made a special fun drink and although I cannot remember this one’s particular name each special drink sure looked yummy!

ONE OF THE MANY SPECIALTY DRINKS

The islands, the boat, the guide and the people were phenomenal. I couldn’t have asked for a better trip.
