Taste Buds: Ham Appetites

011811_hamAppetites

This is a super easy and simple appetizer that goes over fabulously every time I make it. I got the recipe from my mother, and I am not sure who she got it from. Tortillas stuffed with cheesy goodness and sprinkled with veggies tightly rolled and presented in pretty little pinwheels, simply the best I swear! Hope you enjoy!

And since I work better from a pretty picture than I do reading directions I made a quick little diagram of the setup of the ham appetites, pre-roll. ENJOY!

    RECIPE: HAM APPETIETES
INGREDIENTS
8 ounces of Cream Cheese
3 tablespoons Helman’s mayonnaise
3 tablespoons sour cream
1/8 cup black olives, minced
1/8 cup red pepper, minced
1/8 cup scallion, minced
1 cup shredded Colby cheese
precooked ham lunchmeat medium thick cut
8 burrito sized tortillas

DIRECTIONS
1. Mix the cream cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, black olives, red pepper and scallion in a bowl.
2. Lay out a tortilla flat on top of a piece of saran wrap. Spread mayonnaise mixture thinly onto the tortilla leaving a strip of tortilla on the top (about an inch) without spread. You will be rolling the tortilla, some of the spread will ooze with the roll and I find leaving a bit of empty space at the top helps so the roll does not overflow.
3. Sprinkle with shredded cheese and then lay ham slices down side by side.
4. Roll tortilla tightly and gently starting at the opposite side as the un-spread strip.
5. Wrap rolls in saran wrap and refrigerate for at least five hours or overnight.
6. Just before serving slice roll into 1 inch pinwheels.

Variations: I have used yellow and orange pepper or green olives as well. Have fun with the veggies you put in; as long as they are minced small. We have also substituted canned crab meat for the ham or even left the meat out all together for a good vegetarian roll. Havarti cheese and turkey also make a super yummy combination but the possibilities are endless

I got it from Aunt Trisha. You can also switch it up with canned crab meat, add black or green olives, and pimentos for more variation of color. It's quick and easy, have fun with it.
