Europe Day 23, Athens: It's All Greek to Me

Today we spent the morning and afternoon again at the pool, because we CAN PEOPLE we did it because WE CAN. I know some would have a problem sitting at a pool at the hotel when we have come halfway across the world to see Athens, and seriously we wrestled with ourselves on whether or not we should go sightseeing but honestly none of us had it in us to push. If one of us had picked up that torch and rallied the troops (that means kicked the other two in the seat of the pants) then I am sure the other two would have capitulated and got dressed; well either that or there would have been mutiny and the torch carrier could have ended up tied in the room and left in the closet.

Needless to say there wasn’t any cause for any violence because none of us had the energy to carry that torch so we did what our bodies and minds needed, we sat by the pool and vegged. We did go out eventually to do a bit of shopping and then ventured to find a GOOD place to eat.

You see we have been having a problem with that, good place can mean many different things to many different people, or we are sometimes asking people who have had their tastebuds removed but that is neither here or there today we asked the right person and we ended up at this nice restaurant off the beaten path.

What was odd is that we didn’t get to order… there weren’t any menus in English and a man who seemed to speak ok English came to the table.

He said… “You hungry?”
We said “Yes!!!!!!!” (hence why we came to a restaurant… duh)
He said “I bring meat and salad”
We asked for a menu
He said “It will be good, I will bring meat and salad.”

In the end the meal was excellent. Even though we were not sure what we were getting, which would have NEVER flown with me in the States, we just sat back and ate. Thank goodness the food was excellent.

He brought out a:

A GREEK SALAD

SOME YUMMY FRIED ZUCCHINI

TAZIKI (WHICH IS A YUMMY YOGURT AND CUCUMBER SPREAD)

AND THEN A PLATTER OF MEAT – AND WE HAD ALREADY EATEN SOME

Now I say platter of meat because it could have fed six people. Filled with lamb, steak, hamburgers, chicken and pork we finished about ¾ before announcing ourselves stuffed. Or waiter retured to find our platter unfinished; he smiled and said “Eat your meat!” and then walked away.

We were shocked, did that mean we couldn’t leave until it was gone. I started sweating, I couldn’t eat anymore I was stuffed.

WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO

That is when someone had the bright idea to feed the remaining meat slowly to the cats now circling the area… yes, PERFECT! With the help of our fine four legged friends we polished off that platter. And then the waiter brought watermelon.

Seriously I wanted to hit him.

I DID MANAGE TO EAT ONE PIECE

And then we got our bill… yea we couldn’t read the menus why the heck do you think we could figure out the bill.
