Strike a Pose

Mrs. Cutie Pie called a few weeks ago and invited me out to see the Festival of the Arts and the opening night of the Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach. Of course I had heard a lot about it but hadn’t had a chance to go yet. I was thrilled by not only the opportunity of going to see the show but also with the fact that I would not need to drag Mr. Rogue. He really does not like being dragged around to some things.

I was floored by how spectacular it was. Basically actors pose in recreated pieces of art and paintings. For example a group of people are dressed and then posed in the exact position of the original painting by a stager. They then freeze frame themselves like statues as the lights come on and the narrator tells the audience about that piece. It was truly mind boggling that they were real people. I wish I would have had binoculars, and a blanket, because I froze my hiney off.

Every year there is a different theme chosen. This year’s theme was the “Muse” of the artist. Each piece was accompanied by live symphony music and a narration explaining the multi-faced relationships between the artist and the muse. Diane Davey, the Pageant Director, worked “to discover who and what motivates the artists to create”. I think with the works selected she did a PHENOMENAL JOB.
